On the shelves in my local Waterstones, I at first had no Samantha Ellis’s Take Courage: Anne Brontë and the Art of Life You can’t say the same about Anne’s work. They are taught in schools and are considered to have changed the way that literature is written. ![]() Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë) and Wuthering Heights (Emily Brontë) have been adapted countless times, in TV, theatre and cinema. I knew nothing about the plots of either of her novels, only that they weren’t considered as good as the works of her elder sisters. From tiny scraps and snippets vaguely recalled from popular culture and textbooks, I had an image of Anne Brontë as a sweet, simple woman obsessed with morality and religion who died young. The one with the book with the dull name ( Agnes Grey) and the book with the overly long name ( The Tenant of Wildfell Hall). If you had asked me about Anne Brontë a year ago, I would have shrugged my shoulders and said “Oh that one.” The boring one, the unaccomplished one. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I wasn't a big fan of the Nightshade trilogy, it was enjoyable enough but the ending kind of ruined it for me. ![]() *sigh* oh well sometimes love isn't meant to be and the other guy never gets a chance. I clearly remember reading the first chapter online before the book actually came out and it story stole my heart, and broke it all the same time, I thought there was actually a connection between the two characters when she found Ren in the house all alone in wolf form, I thought the story would have built up to much more than it actually did and that the characters would have build up to each other. Sorry I know there are ppl out there who love the idea but I'm not one of them. I have never left reading a book so sad or unjustified yes I really was that upset he died, yes I also understand its a book but when a book leaves you feeling sick it really isn't worth recommending to anyone and I love to recommend books to people and I really really wish the character would have lived, the story would have been better in my opinion, but to just kill off a character so there isn't the strange love triangle anymore is unjust! I wish that Ren would be around for this book, I really do, I feel his death was not necessary and wasn't really needed to build up the plot, if anything it took so much away from the book. Wow I didn't even know there was going to be anymore, looking forward to this, but I can't say I remember this character :S ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fortunately he can lean on his reliable colleague, the discreet and dapper Atherton, who always has a ready ear and an apt pun for even the most gruesome occasions.
